3 qualities every great dentist has

At Summit Family Dentistry, we believe that there are a few things that separate good dentists from great dentists. Of course we strive to be the latter! Each member of our team is fully dedicated to ensuring that we provide our patients with the best care possible.

But what are those qualities that make for a truly great dentist, you ask? As a matter of fact, that’s the topic of today’s blog, so if you’re searching for a dentist in Denver, this would be a great criteria to judge them by. Keep reading to learn more!

Your Dentist Should Have…

Knowledge

Okay, first and foremost, your dentist should be trained in the fine art of dentistry. It’s always a plus if the dentist you are considering has done some additional training or is pursuing an education in a specialized form of treatment. At the end of the day, you want to know that you’re in good hands and the best hands in the business are the ones who are passionate about learning as much as they can in order to improve the experience their patients have with them.

Empathy

Another quality you may not have considered the importance of how much your dentist can empathize with you. After all, it’s no fun at all to have a toothache, but a dentist who doesn’t understand what you’re feeling isn’t going to be able to help quite the same as a dentist who knows what you are going through.

When you have a dentist who can put him or herself in your shoes, the whole experience will likely be that much better. Because having a toothache can be such a trying ordeal to have to go through, it can make all the difference in the world if your dentist knows how to treat your situation with respect.

A Sense of Humor

One other quality you may never have even noticed in a dentist is a sense of humor. When done correctly–and let’s be honest, even if a joke falls flat–it can help to put a patient at ease. As they say, laughter is the best medicine.

To tell you the truth, even the worst dentist joke in the world can sometimes get a laugh. (What is the best time to go to the dentist? Tooth hurty.) And hey, even if it doesn’t get a laugh, at least it’s sort of endearing that your dentist cared enough to try, right?

All Of This And More at Your Nearby Denver Dentist

At Summit Family Dentistry, we strive to have all of these qualities and more. As far as knowledge goes, Dr. Pernell completed an additional year of training in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the NC Veteran Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC and he continues to take more than 100 hours of CE each year.

You’d also be hard pressed to find a staff that is more empathetic than we are. We take great pride in being able to provide our patients with exactly what they need when they come in for a visit. We know how it can feel and we do our best to make patients feel welcome.

As far as the sense of humor thing goes…well, we’ll have to let you be the judge on that one! We’re not professional comedians or anything, but hey, we will try our best to put a smile on your face when you’re here.
